Chapter V

Getting It Done

Numbers, dates, and the open questions still on the table.

One frame for the whole budget

This is the celebration trip — not the budget trip. The numbers below are the envelope, not the target. The bias on every line item is toward "nice and easy" over "cheapest possible." Spend where it makes the trip feel right; don't optimize the joy out of it.

Cost envelope

ComponentEstimateNotes
Flights (2 pax)~$700MSP–YUL roundtrip, one-stop only either direction.
Lodging$110–$140 / nightMid-tier in Plateau or Mile End. 5 nights ≈ $550–$700; 7 nights ≈ $770–$980.
Rental car (1–2 days)TBDFor the rural day-trip(s) only.
FoodTBDBias toward "nice dinners are worth it."
ActivitiesTBDMost of the joy here is walking and eating; activities are light.
Buffer (10–15%)TBDApply once everything else firms.

Five-night base example: $700 flights + $625 lodging = ~$1,325 before food, car, and activities. A reasonable all-in target lands somewhere in the $3,500–$4,800 range for two, depending on length and Quebec City extension.
